Smile Lines also known as Nasolabial Folds

Smile lines, also known as Nasolabial folds, are common in patients as they start to show signs of ageing. As we age, the appearance of these lines become more evident causing a deepening of the line that can make our patients feel conscious.

These lines form from the corners of the nose and travels towards the corners of the mouth, as a result in facial fat distribution and a loss of collagen and skin elastin.

Our face is made up of 5 layers, all contributing to the youthful appearance of the face. But due to genetics, lifestyle such as excess alcohol consumption, smoking and excess exercise, we can see certain layers of the face lose its structure. If the deep layers of the face lose structure, the more superficial layers do not have the support and start to drop. This can result to deep lines forming, jowling and skin tissue to drop giving a more aged appearance.

Your skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid, a sugar-based compound responsible for delivering and maintaining moisture and nutrient levels in skin cells. This helps in creating volume and smoothness in your skin.

Unfortunately, with time, your skin’s ability to manufacture its own hyaluronic acid decreases. When dermal fillers are injected into fine lines, wrinkles, or sunken areas of the face, they replenish the hyaluronic acid that has been absorbed into your body over time, helping you achieve a more youthful appearance.

Looking for some extra enhancement to certain areas of the face? Dermal Filler treatments are perfect to help add volume and help smooth out any folds in our skin- which occurs due to loss of collagen in our skin and redistribution of fat.
